Tools

Compare steel structure quotations by scope

Put two quotations side by side against the same 12 scope items. See which one is more complete, which questions still need a written answer, and bring the result into a project review.

Fabricated steel beam and column components

Scope comparison

Compare the same 12 items in both quotations

Use the quotation text, not the headline price. No supplier names or prices are required. A blank row is treated as not yet confirmed.

Scope

Supply scope boundary

The same building can be quoted as structure only, structure plus envelope, or a full building package.

Bolts, welds and connection materials

Connection design, high-strength bolts, anchor bolts and welding consumables are frequent exclusions.

Roof and wall system

Panels, sheeting, insulation, flashings, fasteners and openings can dominate the interface scope.

Technical

Design code and edition

GB, EN, ASTM, AISC and AS projects lead to different member, connection and documentation requirements.

Steel standard, grade and impact class

A strength grade without the standard and impact class is incomplete for fabrication and inspection.

Coating system and corrosion category

A coating system is defined by the environment, preparation grade, product system and dry film thickness.

Inspection and testing scope

Visual inspection alone is not the same as ultrasonic, magnetic particle or third-party inspection.

Documentation

Approved drawings and revisions

A price tied to an older revision is not comparable with a price tied to the current release.

Mill certificates, inspection records and third-party inspection

The document package is part of the deliverable and has to be priced somewhere.

Commercial

Packing, marking and loading plan

Bundle design, protection, marking and loading preparation are separate scope items in many quotations.

Delivery term and freight boundary

EXW, FOB, CIF, DAP and DDP place different costs and responsibilities on each side.

Payment, lead time, validity and exclusions

Two offers can look close until payment milestones, lead-time assumptions and exclusions are compared.

Completeness

Quote A

0%

0 clearly stated, 0 partly stated, 12 not stated.

Quote B

Next step

Bring the comparison into the review

The inquiry form opens with the completeness result, the open questions and any notes you added. Supplier names and prices are not required.

How to use it

A scope comparison, not a price comparison

The tool does not score design quality or commercial credibility. It only records whether the quotation text answers each scope item clearly.

01

Compare scope before price. Two offers can look similar while one excludes connections, coating, documentation, packing or freight.

02

A blank field is not a criticism of the supplier. It is a question to confirm in writing.

03

Use the same list for both quotations so the result is comparable.

Limits

What the comparison cannot decide

  • It does not judge the design

A clearly stated design code is not the same as a correct design. The engineer responsible for the project still has to review the structural calculations, loads and connections.

  • It does not compare price

Price comparison only becomes meaningful after the scope boundaries and exclusions are aligned. The tool intentionally asks you to leave prices out.

  • It does not approve a supplier

Documentation, capacity, references, quality records and commercial terms still need separate review.

Compare the scope before the order

Send the completed comparison with your drawings or BOQ. The team can review the open questions against the project scope and reply with the missing inputs.
